Do you know someone who always keeps their promises? Why do you think they do so?
Numbers 23:19
God is not a man, that he should lie,
nor a son of man, that he should change his mind.
Does he speak and then not act?
Does he promise and not fulfill?
Joshua 23:14
"Now I am about to go the way of all the earth. You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the LORD your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed.
Romans 4:20-21
Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.
Hebrews 6:18
God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged.
How do you reconcile promises that seem untrue, such as promises of long life (Proverbs 10:27) while some Christians die young, or wealth (Proverbs 22:4) when some Christians live in poverty, or health (Proverbs 4:22)?
The Promises of Fearing the Lord
2 Kings 17:39
but you shall fear the LORD your God, and he will deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies."
Nehemiah 5:9
So I continued, "What you are doing is not right. Shouldn't you walk in the fear of our God to avoid the reproach of our Gentile enemies?
Psalm 25:14
The friendship of the LORD is for those who fear him, and he makes known to them his covenant.
Psalm 34:9 (8-10)
Taste and see that the LORD is good;
blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.
Fear the LORD, you his saints,
for those who fear him lack nothing.
The lions may grow weak and hungry,
but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.
Proverbs 10:27 (21)
The lips of the righteous nourish many,
but fools die for lack of judgment.
The fear of the LORD adds length to life,
but the years of the wicked are cut short.
Proverbs 19:23
The fear of the LORD leads to life:
Then one rests content, untouched by trouble.
Proverbs 22:4
Humility and the fear of the LORD
bring wealth and honor and life.
Ecclesiastes 8:12
Although a wicked man commits a hundred crimes and still lives a long time, I know that it will go better with God-fearing men, who are reverent before God.
Revelation 11:18
The nations were angry; and your wrath has come. The time has come for judging the dead, and for rewarding your servants the prophets and your saints and those who reverence your name, both small and great— and for destroying those who destroy the earth."
2Corinthians 1::20
For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. And so through him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God.
All the promises of God — all the blessings of God in the heavenly places — are YES in Christ Jesus. Jesus is God's decisive YES to all who believe.---John Piper
"My God shall supply all your need" (Phil. 4:19). If then there is a promise anywhere in His Word which just fits your present case and situation, make it your own as suited to your need." Steadfastly resist every attempt of Satan to rob you of any portion of your Father's Word.---A.W. Pink
God will never cease to be what He is and who He is. Everything God says or does must be in accord with His faithfulness. He will always be true to Himself, to His works and to His creation. ---A.W. Tozer

How do you feel when someone tells you what to do? Do you want to do it?
How do you fear something just because your told to?
If God is so big and powerful why does man need to be told to fear Him?
The Command to Fear the Lord
Leviticus 19:32
'Rise in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God. I am the LORD.
Deuteronomy 6:24
The LORD commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear the LORD our God, so that we might always prosper and be kept alive, as is the case today.
Deuteronomy 13:4
It is the LORD your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him.

1 Peter 2:17

Revelation 14:6-7
Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth—to every nation, tribe, language and people. He said in a loud voice, "Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water."
Deuteronomy 31:13
Their children, who do not know this law, must hear it and learn to fear the LORD your God as long as you live in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess."
Psalm 34:11
Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
Deuteronomy 10:12-13
And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the LORD's commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?
Christian, let God's distinguishing love to you be a motive to you to fear Him greatly. He has put His fear in your heart, and may not have given that blessing to your neighbor, perhaps not to your husband, your wife, your child, or your parent. Oh, what an obligation should this thought lay upon your heart to greatly fear the Lord! Remember also that this fear of the Lord is His treasure, a choice jewel, given only to favorites, and to those who are greatly beloved. —John Bunyan

What do you fear?
Why do you fear what you fear?
1 John 4:18
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
How do you reconcile this with other verses that tell us to fear God?
What is the FEAR OF THE LORD?
Proverbs 2:1-51
My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you,
turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding,
and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding,
and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure,
then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.
Proverbs 8:13
To fear the LORD is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.
Proverbs 19:9
The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever. The ordinances of the LORD are sure and altogether righteous.
Job 28:28
And he said to man, 'The fear of the Lord—that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding.'
Ecclesiastes 12:13
Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.
Revere: to regard with awe, deference, and devotion
Phobeo: to fear
Reverential fear of God, as a controlling motive of the life, in matters spiritual and moral, not a mere fear of His power and righteous retribution, but wholesome dread of displeasing Him, a fear which banishes the terror that shrinks from His presence (Romans 8:15) and which influences the disposition and attitude of one whose circumstances are guided by trust in God, through the indwelling Spirit of God
“fear of God which is the Old Testament way of referring to true worship”
“the ‘fear of the Lord’ means fearing to dishonor the Lord. Which means fearing to distrust the Lord. Which means fearing to fear anything that the Lord has promised to help you overcome. In other words, the fear of the Lord is the great fear destroyer.” -John Piper.
